WOODBURY - As Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) continues to make progress recovering from gunshot wounds, New York elected officials are talking about stricter gun control laws.
Rep. Carloyn McCarthy (D-N.Y) has announced plans to introduce legislation that what would ban the sale of high-capacity magazines.
The high-capacity magazines which were used in the shooting were made illegal by the assault gun ban passed into law in 1994, but the ban had been allowed to expire in 2004.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," says while change is needed, to pass a law that would almost surely provoke controversy on Capitol Hill would be difficult, especially when so many citizens are concerned about their constitutional rights.
