BRENTWOOD - Authorities in Brentwood say seven firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation after battling a house fire overnight.

Eight residents narrowly escaped the raging fire on Brookdale Avenue, which also destroyed a boat and damaged two cars. The homeowner was too distraught to speak on record, but neighbors said they could feel the heat from across the street.

"It was just horrific at that point. It was just extremely hot," says neighbor Philip Morris. "You could feel the heat all the way over here and we were just hoping that everyone got out, you know, safely."

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the Suffolk Arson Squad says it is investigating.
