PORT JEFFERSON - Officials were on the scene today of a fire that ripped through a pier and destroyed the Danfords Inn dock house in Port Jefferson.

Chopper 12 was over the scene as volunteers from seven fire departments fought the flames that started around 9:15 a.m.

Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant says the local fire departments responded immediately and the pier largely seems to be in tact. Garant also says the general manager of Danfords says the marina and the hotel will be open for the season.

There is no word on what sparked the fire. Officials say no one was injured.
