CHERRY GROVE - Two well-known landmarks and two homes on Fire Island were reduced to rubble after a massive fire that ignited early Friday morning.

The fire broke out just before 1:30 a.m. on the boardwalk in Cherry Grove. The flames leveled The Holly House, two nearby homes and the Grove Hotel.

Three other homes were damaged.

The incident may have an economic impact on the popular area with the summer season just weeks away. Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine says he will help fast track the rebuilding process.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. Officials say they won't comment on whether they think the fire is suspicious.
