Fire breaks out at furniture and upholstery store

Officials are searching for what caused a commercial fire in West Hempstead Friday morning. The fire broke out at 104 Hempstead Turnpike around 10:45 a.m.

The fire broke out at 104 Hempstead Turnpike around 10:45 a.m.  Motorists are being advised that Hempstead Turnpike is closed in both directions between Marlborough and Westminster roads due to the building fire.

WEST HEMPSTEAD - Three people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a furniture and upholstery store in West Hempstead.

The fire broke out at 104 Hempstead Turnpike around 10:45 a.m.

The flames closed Hempstead Turnpike in both directions between Marlborough Road and Westminster Road.

The flames spread from the store's basement and first floor to the apartments above.

There is no word yet on what started the fire.
