WOODBURY - A battle is brewing in Washington over federal funds for the Sept. 11 memorial and museum project.Sen. Tom Coburn (R-O.K.) is blocking the money because the legislation behind it calls for $200 million over the next 10 years. Coburn says he's not opposed to the project itself, but rather its huge price tag during a time of financial instability. Many Long Islanders say they feel the project is important and worth the investment. Senators Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) say they plan to sit down with Coburn to discuss his concerns.
