WOODBURY - A month later, Long Islanders are hoping for more results from a new FEMA program designed to speed up rebuilding.

FEMA’s STEP program is intended to complete enough essential repairs on a house that residents can move back in and live through the longer term repairs.

County officials say 360 Suffolk homes have been assessed by FEMA so far.

In harder hit Nassau, close to 5,000 homes have been assessed but rebuilding is only complete in eight of those houses.
