LAGUARDIA AIRPORT - Federal investigators are looking into what factors other than ice and snow could have contributed to the runway incident yesterday at LaGuardia Airport.

Authorities say the MD-88 aircraft was on normal approach to Runway 13 in snowy conditions with a quarter-mile visibility. Previous pilots reported good braking conditions and the Port Authority said the runway was plowed minutes earlier.

The Delta plane skidded to the left about halfway down the runway, crashing into a fence along Flushing Bay.

Farmingdale State College aviation professor Dr. Michael Canders says investigators will look into factors including the speed of the pilot’s approach, possible mechanical problems and how busy LaGuardia's airspace was.
