BRENTWOOD - Federal agents say they have arrested a gang member accused in two murders.

Carlos Ortega is charged with two previously unsolved murders and an attempted murder.

Officials say Ortega shot and killed David Sandler outside Sandler's Brentwood apartment in February 2010.

Officers also say Ortega was the trigger man in an attempted murder in Brentwood the same day and killed a man in Far Rockaway a month after that.

The FBI's gang task force says Ortega is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador and is an MS13 member who went by the nickname "Silencio."
