LAWRENCE - Police say the father of a young girl who was found unconscious in a car Monday in Lawrence has been charged with attempted murder.

Investigators were called to the scene near Central Avenue after a passerby found Khemchan Sulaiman, 45, of Jamaica, and his 2-year-old daughter in respiratory distress.

According to police, the investigation revealed that the toddler's bottle contained ammonium chloride. The chemical is commonly found in fire extinguishers. In addition, a pesticide known as "Sevin" was found on the toddler's car seat.

Sulaiman remains hospitalized and was arraigned today in his hospital bed on attempted murder charges.

The 2-year-old girl remains in critical but stable condition.
