ELMONT - Thousands of horseracing fans headed to Belmont Park Saturday afternoon for a chance at witnessing sports history.
Elo McLaughlin, of Crown Point, said she left early in the morning to make sure she beat the crowds at Belmont.
"We got up at 7 a.m. this morning and drove here because we wanted to make sure we didn't wait long in any lines," she told News 12 Long Island.
Many at the racetrack wore their most fashionable hats for the occasion. Whether borrowed from a friend or handmade, the crowd's array of hats did not disappoint.
Over 100,000 people showed up to witness the event.
