Farmingdale to hold work session on skateboarding issue

FARMINGDALE - Farmingdale residents packed village hall tonight to talk about a proposed ban on skateboarding on two local streets with steep hills.

Village officials say they have received complaints from residents on Fairview Road and Yoakum Street. The skateboarders say they are actually longboarders and are safe and don't bother anyone. Some Farmingdale residents beg to differ, calling them a nuisance.

Another public meeting on the issue will be held on Nov. 5. Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand also asked six skateboarders and six residents who filed complaints to come together on Oct. 22 for a work session in hopes of finding a happy medium.
