AMITYVILLE - One Amityville family who lost almost everything to Superstorm Sandy was surprised with a very generous gift today, made possible by their local community.

Hours after they stepped off a plane from Disney World, the Heckmans were surprised with a newly repaired and remodeled home.

The family has been staying in a friend's basement since the storm hit over two months ago. The Heckmans traveled to Florida through the Make a Wish Foundation. Steven Heckman, just 6 years old, was diagnosed with leukemia last summer.

All of the remodeling and repairs were made thanks to donations from contractors, retail stores and neighbors.
