Family still waiting for remains of Shannan Gilbert to be returned

GILGO BEACH - ? The remains of a woman found at Gilgo Beach have not been returned to her family, seven months after being unearthed.

Shannan Gilbert?s body was found last December near the spot where she was last seen alive in Oak Beach.

Gilbert?s family wants her remains examined by an independent pathologist, according to Newsday. The family also wants to test clothing and other evidence found near Gilbert?s remains.

However, Gilbert?s attorney says he has gotten no response to repeated requests to the medical examiner.
