LEVITTOWN - A Long Island family says it is in shock after a Nassau county ambulance medical technician died after contracting an infection.

The family of Steve Linzer says he died last Wednesday of a flesh-eating bacteria contracted from a patient.

The Nassau County Police Department told News 12 Long Island that Linzer's death is being treated as a "line of duty" death, which means the investigation is focusing on whether he contracted an illness on the job.
