SETAUKET - A roadside memorial service was held in Setauket Saturday to honor a man killed in a hit-and-run case that remains unsolved a year later.

Joseph Santiago, 47, was walking home on Ridgeway Avenue when he was struck exactly one year ago. The driver fled the scene. A LIPA worker found Santiago in the middle of the street.

Today, his family set up flowers and family pictures at the spot where Santiago was killed. His relatives prayed and read poetry to honor his life, and to call awareness to the case in hopes that someone will step forward.

"It's kind of puzzling," said Jorian Hardman, the victim's sister. "I say to myself, how could somebody be so cruel and not stop?"

Police say the person who hit Santiago was driving a white Hyundai sedan made between 1999 and 2006. It likely had front-end damage.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
