ST. JAMES - Family, friends and colleagues honored a New York City police officer today who drowned while kayaking in Smithtown Bay.

A wake was held at St. James Funeral Home for NYPD officer Patrick Luca, of Smithtown, who was with his 5-year-old son when he went missing in the water Friday. His body was found the next day in the Long Island Sound.

The 41-year-old father was remembered as a devoted family man and respected role model for young officers.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at St. Patrick's Church in Smithtown.
