HICKSVILLE - Family and friends poured into Parkway Community Church in Hicksville today to mourn a young woman whose life was cut short when a gun went off inside a Westchester townhouse.

As News 12 has reported, 23-year-old Megan Bookstaver was fatally shot in Tarrytown, N.Y. on Monday. Police say her boyfriend and his friend were examining guns when one went off, striking Bookstaver in the head.

Police are calling Bookstaver's death "suspicious," and haven't yet ruled it accidental or a homicide. They say they're not sure who was holding the gun when it went off.

Dr. Jaipal Rana tells News 12 that Bookstaver was a student a Mercy College and worked at his animal hospital in Woodbury. "She was achieving every goal and doing very good in her studies," he says.
