MERRICK - Family, friends and fellow officers gathered with heavy hearts tonight as they mourned a fallen hero.

Wake services began today at the Merrick Fire Department for Nassau officer Arthur Lopez.

The 29-year-old was fatally shot in the line of duty Tuesday. Darrell Fuller, a 33-year-old ex-con, was officially charged with first-degree murder this morning in connection with the deaths of Lopez and Raymond Facey.

Wake services will resume Friday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Lopez's funeral is set for Saturday.
