CALVERTON - Hundreds of family and friends of fallen soldiers turned out at Calverton National Cemetery to honor their heroes this Memorial Day.
The cemetery director began the ceremony by urging attendees to spread the word about the annual gathering so that next year, more people can gather and remember the true meaning of the holiday.
The ceremony included a speech from Michelle McNaughton, a member of American Gold Star Mothers, who lost her son in 2005. ?It doesn't get easier, I tell you that,? she says. ?Today is a hard day.?
Veterans of various U.S. wars were in attendance and say it's important to honor all the generations of service men and women.
