Fallen Heroes: Gold Star children live with loss

LONG BEACH - Thousands of American children have lost their fathers to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and among the Gold Star children are Long Beach natives Hunter and Emma Youngblood. Their father, Travis Youngblood, a Navy medic, was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. He died two months before Emma was born. Now 6 years old, Emma has gotten to know her father through photos, videos and cherished memories shared by her mother, Laura. Emma's big brother Hunter was 4 years old when he said goodbye to his dad before he deployed. Just eight months later, Hunter accepted his father's Purple Heart medal at his funeral. The children say their father is a hero who sacrificed his life for freedom. Travis Youngblood is buried at Calverton National Cemetery.News 12 LI: Fallen Heroes
