WANTAGH - The battle between Nassau County and residents near Cedar Creek Park in Wantagh came to a head Monday over a plan to build a new police precinct inside the 259-acre park.

County Executive Ed Mangano released a statement that said Nassau would drop the controversial plan, but Legislator Steve Rhoads, of Bellmore, said the park was among several locations under consideration.

County officials say the existing 7th Precinct building on Merrick Road in Seaford is too small and requires major repairs.

Other locations under consideration include the Sunrise Mall and the Manor East property in North Massapequa on Jerusalem Avenue.

RhoadsĀ is hosting a community meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wantagh High School to discuss more potential locations.
