WOODBURY - Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy (R-Suffolk) is pushing lawmakers to approve a law about immigrant workers.

The law would force county contractors to prove their workers are in the country legally. It was enacted as a pilot program in 2008 and Levy says he wants it to be a permanent policy.

Immigrant advocates say the bill contributes to a climate of hate toward Hispanics.

The measure is expected to be introduced at tomorrow afternoon's session of the Suffolk County Legislature.
