ROCKVILLE CENTRE - Former state Sen. Dean Skelos and his son Adam will be sentenced on federal corruption charges Thursday morning, prompting officials in his hometown to remove Skelos' name from a park.
Both Skelos men were convicted in December.
The playing fields on Peninsula Boulevard in Rockville Centre are still collectively called the "Dean Skelos Sports Complex," but it's no longer apparent by passing through the front gates. The signs bearing the former 30-year state senator's name have been removed by the village. His name is still on the sign for a local lacrosse camp.
Skelos plans to appeal his conviction.
A spokesperson for Rockville Centre says the village will wait for the appellate process to play out before making any permanent decision on the park's name.
Former state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was also convicted of corruption last year. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison earlier this month.
