The former IT director for Suffolk County pleaded guilty Tuesday to two misdemeanor charges, including official misconduct.

Prosecutors say Donald Rodgers ordered a subordinate to create a fake requisition number on a bid for a multimillion-dollar software deal with Dell and Microsoft. Prosecutors say they believe he was pressured to close the deal by sales people and by the county executive's office.

The false requisition number led Dell and Microsoft to bill the county for $1.45 million even though the deal was not approved by the Legislature. The deal eventually fell apart.

“There was never any personal gain to Donald Rodgers and Suffolk County did not suffer any financial loss,” said Alan Abramson, Rodger’s attorney. “Donald proudly served the people of Suffolk County and he deeply regrets the mistakes that he has made.”

Rodgers also pleaded guilty to not disclosing revenue he earned from a consulting company he owned.

As a part of his guilty plea, Rodgers will not face any jail time or probation. He was required to pay about $500 in court costs.
