CEDARHURST - The dog who escaped from a groomer at a Cedarhurst pet shop has been found safe and sound.

Sparky is now reunited with his family.

News 12 reported the 3-year-old Shih Tzu got loose and ran away after a grooming session by Purrfect Pets on Wednesday.

The dog was en route back to the Cedarhurst store from a secondary location in Far Rockaway when he bit an employee and took off, according to the store owner.

Sparky's owners were desperately searching for the pup for three days and put up fliers. They received a phone call Saturday evening saying he was found in a backyard.

Owner Jose Echeverria says his kids were devastated about losing Sparky, and they are just happy he is back home.

Victor Robinson, owner of Purrfect Pets, says the employee that was responsible for Sparky's disappearance was fired and other changes at both stores will be made.

“We have to pinpoint exactly what went wrong and make sure nothing like this happens again,” Robinson told News 12.
