ELWOOD - The Elwood School District superintendent announced at a board meeting today that the school would need to cut $3.5 million from its budget due to proposed state cuts to school funding.

Superintendent Peter Scordo suggested letting go of 30 employees, increasing class sizes to nearly 32 students per class, as well as cutting art, music and sports programs.

Elwood Athletic Director Lou Tuorto packed the meeting with about a dozen coaches trying to send the message that there has to be another option other than cutting sports.

One board member says as far as he's concerned, he can't support a school budget that does not include music and sports.
