ELMONT - The Elmont Fire Department is facing criticism for a fire logo emblazoned on the side of one of its 10 trucks.

The logo features a skull with flames coming out of its eye sockets and what many see as the Confederate flag wrapped around its neck. Some residents say they're offended and see the image as a link to white supremacy and slavery.

According to Chief James Prince, the bandana is meant to represent the American flag. He says the picture was taken the wrong way and that it was not the department's intention to hurt the community.

Prince says the image will be changed this week to display a fire gear bunker coat around the skeleton's neck.
