HUNTINGTON - An elderly disabled woman was pulled from her burning Huntington home Friday evening through the joint effort of a neighbor, police officer and fire chief. When neighbor Tom Hyland smelled burning plastic and heard an alarm going off in his elderly neighbor's apartment, he called 911.

Officer Joseph Lanzisera responded to the call. He broke through the side window, climbed into the apartment and dragged the woman to safety, with the help of Huntington Fire Chief Ken Cochrane. The 84-year-old woman lives alone in a Huntington apartment complex and uses an oxygen tank, which officials believe caused the fire.

The blaze was contained within the woman's first-floor apartment.
