RONKONKOMA - Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) came to Long Island's MacArthur Airport today to call on JetBlue to make the Ronkonkoma airport one of its new homes. As of now, only Southwest and US Airways operate out of MacArthur, which leaves some space for a new carrier. JetBlue Airways is reportedly considering the airport for a new Northeast destination. Long Islanders can only fly non-stop to seven different locations from MacArthur and officials say by adding JetBlue, it could increase the number significantly. Islip Town officials say landing JetBlue would mean 800 new jobs and $24 million pumped into the local economy.
