WOODBURY - Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and former County Executive Tom Suozzi clashed on a number of issues at today's Long Island Association debate.

The two candidates argued over property assessments, the recent Coliseum deal and the response to Superstorm Sandy, but the No. 1 issue was taxes.

Mangano says he has not raised taxes, but Suozzi says Mangano has been borrowing so much money that Nassau has the highest debt in the county’s history.

Suozzi also took a swipe at a Mangano ad that claimed Suozzi accepted a $65,000 pay raise when he was county executive. Suozzi said a bipartisan panel recommended the pay hike to match salaries in Suffolk.

"He neglects to mention that he has taken the exact same salary that he complains of for the last four years," Suozzi says.
