EAST PATCHOGUE - An East Patchogue grandmother thanked a member of Suffolk's Medical Crisis Action Team Friday for saving her life three months ago.

Kathleen Manganello, 72, has been recovering at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital since Dec. 19, when her heart stopped in the middle of the night.

Andrew Manganello, her husband of 52 years, called 911 and began chest compressions until emergency services arrived on the scene.

While members of the Patchogue Fire Department performed CPR, Officer Arnold Reyes, an EMT/police officer, performed advanced life support using a needle that pierced the bone to administer medication.

Kathleen Manganello, who wears a pacemaker, called her recovery "a miracle" and thanked Reyes for his life-saving measures.

"I don't want to brag," says Reyes. "It's our job. It's a passion that I love to do."
