EAST MEADOW - East Meadow residents are pushing for a permit parking system.

A 700-spot parking garage at Nassau University Medical Center is being demolished. While the hospital has put in hundreds of new spaces, many are a quarter-mile away from the main buildings. As a result, neighbors say hospital employees are parking on local East Meadow streets.

A "residents only" parking zone was approved by the state Legislature and signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo about a month ago.

The Town of Hempstead was expected to discuss the parking zone today, but officials postponed the meeting without setting a new date.
