East End pols oppose state redistricting plan

RIVERHEAD - East End elected officials say they are displeased with a state proposal that would modify current Assembly districts lines. Assemblymen Dan Losquadro and Fred Thiele represent the North Fork (1st District) and South Fork (2nd District), respectively. The new plan calls for Losquadro's district to be halved and put under Thiele's jurisdiction. Many local politicians have opposed the measure, saying the towns of Riverhead and Brookhaven have diverse economic and tourism interests. The maps will be redrawn by the Assembly Re-Apportionment Committee and need to be completed before the state's first primary June 26.
