WESTHAMPTON - Large sharks spotted near the shore for the past two days are keeping people out of the water at two East End beaches.

Swimmers are banned from the water at Cupsogue and Smith Point county parks after several sharks, some nearly 20 feet long, were observed.

A shark expert from Stony Brook University says they appear to be basking sharks, which are the second largest sharks in the world. He says they don't pose a risk to humans because they eat by filtering plankton.
