EAST HAMPTON - Some lawmakers in the Town of East Hampton are calling for regulations to control the rowdy outdoor partying that summer nights typically bring. Town Councilwoman Theresa Quigley, a Republican, says the town has no regulatory code or enforcement power when nightclubs let patrons party outside on their lawns. She and other lawmakers have suggested rules to require as much as 7 square feet of space per patron if clubs want to let partiers outside. Democrats on the town council argue it's a bad idea that will hurt businesses. Local chambers of commerce agree, noting they only have a few short months to make the bulk of their revenue. The council says it's still trying to hammer out the language of the bill in a way that will keep everyone happy.
