SOUTHAMPTON - Hurricane Irene battered the East End with heavy rains and powerful gusts on Sunday.
As with most other parts of the Island, South Fork residents coped with downed utility poles, toppled trees and flooding.
Debris littered the normally quaint streets of Southampton. Strong waves spooked weekend visitors and longtime residents away from the beaches.
Homeonwers returned to survey the damage done to their property after some areas were under mandatory evacuation orders during the storm.
