Early season snowstorm hits parts of Long Island

WOODBURY - While the calendar may still have said that it's October, it looked like early December across parts of Long Island Saturday. Many people stopped stocking up on candy for Halloween to stock up on salt, shovels and gloves."Last year I had no shovel," said Greg Morgan. "I did not have salt, everybody ran out of everything so I figured I'd get it this year and try to be ahead of the game."

Because of the weather, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y) ordered the State Office of Emergency Management to open its facilities, including the center in Nassau County.

The Red Cross said it was also prepared to open shelters if the power outages and cold forced people from their homes.
