FREEPORT - A man and woman are accused of carrying out a string of smash-and-grab burglaries at businesses along Nassau's South Shore.

Rockville Centre police say they conducted a traffic stop on a minivan with a Tennessee license plate in Lynbrook on Saturday. A man and woman were inside the vehicle, and authorities say an investigation linked them to a rash of burglaries.

Police have identified the suspects as 34-year-old Juan Carlos Lora, of Far Rockaway, and 26-year-old Michelle Depra, of Hempstead.

In each the seven burglary cases, police say the suspects smashed the glass front doors at local businesses and made off with the cash registers inside.

Four of the burglaries occurred in Freeport during July of last year. Those burglaries targeted Next Level Cellular and Audio shop on Smith Street; Sazon Latino Deli on Merrick Road; Wilson Freeport Deli on Broadway; and Freeport Deli and Grill on Buffalo Avenue.

Three other burglaries were carried out earlier this month. Those targeted the Smith Street Deli on Smith Street in Merrick; the Sunoco gas station on Atlantic Avenue in Freeport; and the UNG Bakery on Broadway in Lynbrook.

Lora is facing six counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary, plus one count of criminal sale of marijuana. Depra is charged with two counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
