COMMACK - A man who admitted to driving drunk when he struck a police car, killing a Suffolk County police officer, was released from prison today.

Officials say that Jose Borbon, of Plainview, crashed his car and killed officer Glen Ciano in Commack in Feb. 2009.

Borbon pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and DWI. Prosecutors wanted him to spend up to nine years behind bars, but say a judge gave him a one-and-a-third to four-year sentence.

Officials say that by the time Borbon was sentenced, he had already served one year and nine months for a drunken-driving charge a few weeks before the crash that killed Ciano. They say the judge ruled that it counted as time served.

In a statement, Borbon's attorney said his client received a fair sentence based upon the facts of the case. He says Borbon remains truly remorseful, his heart goes out to the Ciano family and he plans to be a productive member of society.
