Dozens of residents were forced to evacuate tonight after a fire ripped through a Hempstead apartment building.Officials say around 13 departments responded to the five-alarm

HEMPSTEAD - Dozens of residents were forced to evacuate tonight after a fire ripped through a Hempstead apartment building.

Officials say around 13 departments responded to the five-alarm fire on Fulton Avenue. The fire broke out around 6 p.m. and at its height, reached up to the fifth floor.

According to officials, approximately 30 people were rushed to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The fire marshal, who is still investigating the fire, says no one was seriously injured.

A shelter has been set up at Hempstead High School by the American Red Cross for everyone who has been displaced by the fire.
