PORT JEFFERSON STATION - The Lighthouse Mission has been using a Port Jefferson Station parking lot for four years to deliver food to those in need, but the Department of Transportation (DOT) is now turning them away.

The mission had set up once a week at the park and ride lot, but the DOT recently sent a letter to Pastor Jim Ryan saying that the activities must stop.

The pastor insists the mission operates without cost to the community and residents say that the lot is empty all week expect for the one hour during which the mission sets up.

Ryan says that he will not let the DOT stop him and that he will continue to help those in need.
