ROSLYN - A Roslyn man is not letting lung cancer stand in the way of a three-day run in Colorado next week.

Dolio Kafri has been training for the TransRockies event for about a year. The run covers 56 miles with an elevation gain of nearly 9,000 feet.

Kafri says he has almost 30 triathlons under his belt, but this time will be much different. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with lung cancer that has since spread to his brain.

"I'll never forget that day," Kafri told News 12. "Athlete or no athlete, nobody's ready for that."

Kafri, who will turn 50 on Sunday, says exercise has always been part of his lifestyle. Less than two weeks after undergoing brain surgery to remove his tumor, Kafri was cycling on the North Shore of Long Island.

He's even started a nonprofit called Supportersize that aims to empower people with cancer through exercise. Although his Stage 4 cancer has not been beat, Kafri says it will never have him.

"I'm not ready. I have a lot to do," he says.
