UNIONDALE - Police are searching for the person who threw a dog out of a moving car on Saturday night in Uniondale.

The Nassau SPCA says it is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Jeanine Prysock-Gonzalez told News 12 Long Island that she saw the dog being thrown from the car on Bedford Avenue.

"When we went to go towards her, there was a protective growl," she says.

Prysock-Gonzalez says she called 911 and tried to find a rescue organization to take in the pup. It wasn't until Sunday that the Nassau SPCA came to get the dog.

The 5-month-old mix, nicknamed "Bandit," is safe at Massapequa Pet Vet.

The head of Massapequa Pet Vet says Bandit had some parasites, and may have been abused in the past. The SPCA says it believes it has already found a permanent home for her.

Anyone with information about the dog's owner is urged to call the SPCA at 516-THE-SPCA.
