LEVITTOWN - Police say a dog is a hero today after saving a family and their friend from a raging Levittown house fire. The fire broke out around 12:45 a.m. this morning on Prentice Road.

News 12 Long Island has learned that the family dog woke up a woman, her twin 11-year-old daughters and their friend.

All four people escaped but suffered smoke inhalation.

One firefighter dislocated his knee at the scene.

There is no word yet on what sparked the fire.
