WOODBURY - Doctors say three days after being shot in the head, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) is breathing on her own.

Giffords' doctor says he's encouraged by the congresswoman's progress, but warns there's still a long road ahead.

"With this kind of injury, I think we've said it a couple of times, a penetrating injury to the skull ? the survival, let alone the recovery, is abysmal," says Dr. Michael Lemole, chief of neurosurgery at the University of Arizona Medical Center. "She has no right to look this good and she does."
