DIX HILLS - Firefighters and EMTs helped deliver a baby boy Monday night when a mother went into labor in her car.
"We made it 20 seconds down the driveway and my water broke," said Tina Marie Ortiz. She then told her husband Juan to call 911.
Responding firefighters and EMTs helped her give birth in their backseat.
"Dad was nervous. Dad should be a chiropractor. He cracked my back pretty good when he hugged me. Both parents were great," said Dix Hills First Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano.
The child's name is Blaise, which the family picked months before members of the fire department helped with his delivery.
Blaise and his mother will go home Wednesday. The family also has a 22-month-old son named Massimo.
