DIX HILLS - Residents on Carriage Court in Dix Hills say a blighted home is causing problems, but they are unable to get anything done about it.

Annette Melchers, who lives next door to the blighted house, says it has been abandoned for six years. She is trying to sell her own home, but says she is having trouble finding a buyer because no one wants to live next to the eyesore.

Melchers says she recently called the police because the front door was open and police went in and found part of the second floor had collapsed into the kitchen. Neighbor Mike Warmoth says the house's floor is rotted and rats live inside.

The Town of Huntington recently labeled the house "blighted" and assessed a fine of $2,500 to its owner. Residents say the owner, identified in tax records as Pastor Nicholas Donofrio of the Upper Room Ministries, has done nothing to fix the house.

The town says it's working with the homeowner's lawyer to do something about the house. If the homeowner does not comply with them, the town says they may demolish the house.
