DIX HILLS - Voters in Dix Hills finally got the chance to vote on a proposed bond for the fire department.

Voters shot down the measure by a 3-1 margin with more than 1,500 people casting ballots.

The $20 million plan would have financed a new firehouse, maintenance building and training tower at a cost of roughly $145 per resident each year.

The vote was scheduled to be held earlier in the year, but was held up after several residents voiced concerns.
