Department of Transportation warns drivers to stay off roads during plowing

The state DOT has brought in extra resources from upstate regions to help clear the roads. (March 7, 2013)

WOODBURY - The state is warning drivers to stay off the roads tonight so plows can clear the snow.

Crews loaded up extra salt and readied the state's 229 Long Island-based plows to keep the LIE and other main roads from becoming impassable. To help get out ahead of this storm, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) also brought in extra resources from upstate regions.

The state DOT had no plans to close the LIE as of Thursday evening, and said it would keep plows working through the storm. It is reminding motorists to give plows plenty of room to do their job so they can keep the roads clear.
